Phillippa Mills AKA Bambi Watts is an artist based in Devon & is led forth by a notorious large ginger horse named Briar Rose. She studied originally at Camberwell College of Arts, London. Her painterly approach to classical illustration carries a spectacular cohort of visual cross reference & memory, influenced among other things by childhood storybooks, high fashion & rooting through hedgerows in the wilds of Dartmoor. Her idiosyncratic lines bring subjects to life, alluding to the curious narratives they suggest. In her work she seeks to capture the pertinent emotion of her whimsical subjects who often display an air of pathos & unsettling beauty.

In her imaginary life she reads Beatrix Potter to the ghost of her Indian Runner Duck, Mrs Wackwack the 2nd.

She had yellow legs, and webbed feet, and was considered a great beauty on account of her waddle.
’Quack, quack, quack,’ she said. ‘What a curious shape you are!
May I ask were you born like that, or is it the result of a accident?’
— Oscar Wilde
